Instructions
- Prepare the dough by mixing warm water, 1 tablespoon of sugar, and active dry yeast in a small bowl. Let it sit for 5-10 minutes until frothy.
- In a large mixing bowl, combine all-purpose flour, remaining sugar, and salt. Make a well in the center and add melted butter, warm milk, eggs, and the frothy yeast mixture. Mix until a dough forms.
- Prepare the apple filling by combining diced apples with brown sugar, cinnamon, and nutmeg in a medium bowl. Stir well and let sit for a few minutes.
- Once the dough has risen and doubled in size, punch it down and roll it out into a large rectangle (about 12×18 inches). Spread the apple filling evenly over the dough.
- Roll the dough tightly into a log, pinch the seams to seal, and cut the log in half lengthwise. Twist the two halves together and shape into a braided loaf.
