Ingredients
Scale
- 1 lb button mushrooms, sliced
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1 teaspoon dried thyme
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
- 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
- 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
- 1 cup heavy cream
- 2 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted
- 1/2 cup breadcrumbs (optional)
- Fresh parsley, chopped (for garnish)
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C) and grease a 9×13 inch baking dish.
- In a large bowl, toss sliced mushrooms with olive oil, garlic powder, thyme, salt, and black pepper until well coated.
- Spread the mushroom mixture evenly into the prepared baking dish.
- Sprinkle shredded cheddar and Parmesan cheeses over the mushrooms.
- Pour the heavy cream evenly over the cheese and mushroom mixture.
- In a separate bowl, combine melted butter with breadcrumbs, then sprinkle over the casserole (optional).
- Bake for 25–30 minutes until the top is golden and the edges are bubbly. Broil for an extra 2–3 minutes for a crispier crust if desired.
- Remove from the oven, let rest for a few minutes, garnish with chopped parsley, and serve.
Notes
- Use cremini or shiitake mushrooms for deeper flavor.
- Substitute heavy cream with half-and-half for a lighter option.
- Mozzarella or fontina can be used instead of cheddar.
- Omit or use gluten-free breadcrumbs for a gluten-free version.
- Sauté mushrooms before baking to reduce excess moisture.
