- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1 cup chocolate chips

Instructions
- In a heavy saucepan, melt the butter over medium heat.
- Add sugar, water, and salt. Stir to combine.
- Bring the mixture to a boil, stirring constantly.
- Cook until the mixture reaches a deep golden color, about 10-15 minutes.
- Remove from heat and stir in vanilla extract.
- Pour the toffee onto a parchment-lined baking sheet.
- Sprinkle chocolate chips on top and let them melt.
- Spread the melted chocolate evenly and top with chopped nuts if desired.
- Allow to cool completely before breaking into pieces.
