Description
Black Magic Cake Pops are rich, chocolatey treats made from crumbled chocolate cake mixed with frosting, shaped into balls, and coated in dark chocolate.
Ingredients
Scale
- 1 box chocolate cake mix (15.25 oz)
- 1 cup water
- 1/2 cup vegetable oil
- 3 large eggs
- 1 cup chocolate frosting
- 12 oz dark chocolate
- Lollipop sticks (about 12)
- 1 tablespoon coconut oil (optional)
- Edible gold dust (optional)
- Colored sprinkles or edible glitter (optional)
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
- In a large mixing bowl, combine the chocolate cake mix, water, vegetable oil, and eggs. Mix until smooth.
- Pour the batter into a greased 9×13 inch baking pan and bake for 30-35 minutes.
- Allow the cake to cool completely in the pan.
- Crumble the cooled cake into fine crumbs in a large bowl.
- Add the chocolate frosting to the crumbled cake and mix until moist and shape-holding.
- Roll the mixture into 1-inch balls and place on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
- Refrigerate the cake balls for about 30 minutes to firm up.
- Melt the dark chocolate and coconut oil in a microwave-safe bowl.
- Dip the tip of each lollipop stick into the melted chocolate and insert it into the center of each cake ball.
- Dip each cake pop into the melted chocolate, allowing excess to drip off.
- Sprinkle edible gold dust over the chocolate coating if desired.
- Place the coated cake pops upright in a stand or Styrofoam block to set for 15-30 minutes.
Notes
- Ensure the cake is completely cooled before crumbling.
- Do not skip the chilling step to help the cake pops hold their shape.
- Use enough chocolate for coating to achieve a smooth finish.
- Be gentle when inserting the lollipop sticks to avoid cracking the cake balls.
