Description
Bow ties with sausage, tomatoes, and cream is a comforting pasta dish that blends savory sausage with sweet tomatoes in a creamy sauce.
Ingredients
Scale
- 12 oz bow tie pasta (farfalle)
- 1 lb Italian sausage (mild or spicy)
- 2 tablespoons olive oil
- 1 medium onion, finely chopped
- 3 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 can (14 oz) diced tomatoes (with juices)
- 1 cup heavy cream
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 1/2 teaspoon dried oregano (optional)
- 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese (for serving)
- Fresh basil leaves (for garnish)
Instructions
- Cook the bow tie pasta according to package instructions until al dente. Reserve 1 cup of pasta water before draining.
- In a large skillet, brown the sausage, breaking it into smaller pieces as it cooks. Drain excess fat and set the sausage aside.
- In the same skillet, sauté chopped onion and garlic in olive oil for 3-4 minutes. Add diced tomatoes and let it simmer for 5 minutes.
- Pour in the heavy cream, stirring to combine. Season with salt, pepper, and optional oregano. Let the sauce simmer and thicken for 5 minutes.
- Add the cooked pasta to the skillet, tossing it in the sauce. Use reserved pasta water to adjust the sauce consistency if needed.
- Serve with grated Parmesan cheese and garnish with fresh basil.
Notes
- Substitute turkey sausage or chicken sausage for a lighter option.
- For a vegetarian version, replace sausage with sautéed mushrooms or lentils.
- Use half-and-half instead of heavy cream for a lighter sauce.
- Use gluten-free pasta for a gluten-free option.
