Description

Chicken Shawarma Rice is a flavorful Middle Eastern dish that combines marinated chicken with seasoned rice.


Ingredients

  • 2 cups basmati rice
  • 1 lb chicken thighs, boneless and skinless
  • 4 tablespoons olive oil
  • 2 teaspoons cumin
  • 2 teaspoons paprika
  • 1 teaspoon turmeric
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 4 cups chicken broth
  • 1/4 cup fresh parsley, chopped

Instructions

  1. Rinse the basmati rice under cold water until the water runs clear.
  2. In a bowl, mix olive oil, cumin, paprika, turmeric, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and pepper.
  3. Add chicken thighs to the marinade and coat well. Let it marinate for at least 30 minutes.
  4. In a pot, heat the remaining olive oil over medium heat. Add the marinated chicken and cook until browned on both sides.
  5. Add the rinsed rice to the pot with the chicken.
  6. Pour in the chicken broth and bring to a boil.
  7. Reduce heat to low, cover, and simmer for 15-20 minutes until rice is cooked and liquid is absorbed.
  8. Remove from heat and let it sit covered for 5 minutes.
  9. Fluff the rice with a fork and stir in chopped parsley before serving.

Notes

  • Adjust spices according to your taste.
  • Serve with a side of garlic sauce or tahini.
  • This dish can be stored in the fridge for up to 3 days.
