Description

Delicious homemade churro bites that are crispy, sweet, and coated in cinnamon sugar. Perfect as a snack or dessert, easy to make with simple ingredients.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup water
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1 tablespoon granulated sugar
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • Vegetable oil for frying
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar (for coating)
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon

Instructions

  1. In a medium saucepan, bring water, butter, salt, and sugar to a rolling boil over medium heat.
  2. Reduce heat to low, add flour, and stir continuously until dough forms a ball and pulls away from the pan.
  3. Remove from heat and let dough cool for 5-10 minutes.
  4. Beat in eggs one at a time until smooth, then add vanilla extract.
  5. Heat vegetable oil in a deep pot to 350°F (175°C).
  6. Drop tablespoon-sized dough rounds into hot oil in batches; fry until golden brown, about 3-4 minutes.
  7. Remove churro bites with a slotted spoon and drain on paper towels.
  8. While still warm, toss churro bites in a mixture of granulated sugar and ground cinnamon until evenly coated.
  9. Serve warm, optionally with dipping sauces like chocolate or dulce de leche.

Notes

  • Fry in small batches to avoid overcrowding and soggy bites.
  • Let dough cool before adding eggs to prevent cooking the eggs.
  • Use a thermometer to maintain oil temperature at 350°F (175°C) for best results.
  • Store leftovers in an airtight container; reheat in the oven to restore crispness.
  • Substitute gluten-free flour for a gluten-free version.
  • For vegan option, replace eggs with mashed bananas or applesauce and use dairy-free butter.
