Ingredients

- 4 slices of thick bread
- 2 large eggs
- 1 cup milk
- 1/4 cup heavy cream
- 1/4 cup sugar
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 2 tablespoons butter
Instructions
- In a bowl, whisk together eggs, milk, cream, sugar, vanilla, and salt.
- Soak bread slices in the mixture for 5 minutes, turning to coat.
- Melt butter in a skillet over medium heat.
- Add soaked bread and cook for 3-4 minutes on each side until golden brown.
- Place cooked toast on a baking sheet and sprinkle sugar on top.
- Broil in the oven until sugar caramelizes, about 2 minutes.
- Serve warm.
Notes
- Use a kitchen torch for a more controlled caramelization.
- Serve with fresh fruit or maple syrup.
- Can be made ahead and reheated.
