Description

Crispy Cajun Tofu Bites are a crunchy, spicy, plant-based snack or meal component flavored with a bold Cajun seasoning blend, perfect for vegans and those wanting a flavorful dish.


Ingredients

  • 1 14-ounce block extra-firm tofu
  • 2 tablespoons extra virgin olive oil or melted butter (if not vegan)
  • 1 tablespoon coconut aminos or soy sauce (gluten-free if necessary)
  • 1 teaspoon apple cider vinegar
  • 1 tablespoon Cajun seasoning
  • 1 teaspoon smoked paprika
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground black pepper
  • 1 teaspoon maple syrup or honey (if not vegan)

Instructions

  1. Drain and press the tofu for at least 10 minutes to remove excess moisture.
  2. Tear the pressed tofu into uneven, bite-sized chunks.
  3. In a large bowl, mix olive oil, coconut aminos or soy sauce, apple cider vinegar, Cajun seasoning, smoked paprika, garlic powder, black pepper, and maple syrup or honey to create the marinade.
  4. Toss the tofu chunks gently in the marinade until well coated and let sit for 10-15 minutes to absorb flavors.
  5. Choose your cooking method:
    • Oven: Bake at 400°F (200°C) for 30 minutes, flipping halfway.
    • Air Fryer: Air fry at 375°F (190°C) for 15 minutes, shaking halfway.
    • Pan-Fry: Cook in heated oil over medium-high heat for about 7 minutes until crispy, flipping occasionally.
  6. Let cooked tofu rest a couple of minutes before serving.

Notes

  • Press tofu thoroughly to avoid sogginess.
  • Do not overcrowd cooking surface for even crispiness.
  • Marinate longer (30-60 mins or overnight) for deeper flavor.
  • Reheat in oven or air fryer to maintain crispiness; avoid microwave.
  • Freeze tofu before cooking, not after, to preserve texture.
