Description
Fried chicken is a crispy and flavorful dish made with seasoned chicken pieces fried to golden perfection. A perfect comfort food for any occasion.
Ingredients
Scale
- 4 pounds chicken pieces (wings, thighs, drumsticks, or a whole chicken cut into parts)
- 2 cups buttermilk (for marinating)
- 2 cups all-purpose flour (for coating)
- 1 tablespoon salt
- 1 teaspoon black pepper
- 1 tablespoon paprika
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1 teaspoon onion powder
- ½ teaspoon cayenne pepper (optional)
- 4 cups vegetable oil (for frying)
Instructions
- Marinate the chicken in buttermilk for at least 2 hours, or overnight for best results.
- Prepare the coating by mixing flour, salt, black pepper, paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, and cayenne pepper in a bowl.
- Remove chicken from buttermilk and dredge each piece in the seasoned flour mixture, ensuring it’s fully coated.
- Heat vegetable oil in a skillet or deep fryer to 350°F (175°C).
- Fry the chicken for 8-10 minutes (white meat) or 12-15 minutes (dark meat) until golden brown and cooked through (internal temp should be 165°F or 74°C).
- Drain the fried chicken on paper towels or a wire rack. Serve hot.
Notes
- If you don’t have buttermilk, substitute with milk mixed with vinegar or lemon juice.
- For a gluten-free version, substitute the flour with gluten-free flour or breadcrumbs.
- Consider marinating the chicken longer for a more flavorful and tender result.
- Use a thermometer to ensure the oil is at the correct temperature to avoid soggy chicken.
