Ingredients

- 3 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 tablespoon ground ginger
- 1 tablespoon ground cinnamon
- 1 teaspoon ground cloves
- 1 teaspoon baking soda
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 3/4 cup unsalted butter, softened
- 3/4 cup brown sugar, packed
- 1 large egg
- 1/2 cup molasses
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
- In a bowl, mix flour, ginger, cinnamon, cloves, baking soda, and salt.
- In another bowl, cream the butter and brown sugar.
- Add the egg and molasses to the butter mixture and mix well.
- Gradually add the flour mixture to the wet ingredients.
- Roll out the dough and cut shapes with cookie cutters.
- Place cookies on a baking sheet.
- Bake for 8-10 minutes or until edges are firm.
- Cool on a wire rack before decorating.
Notes
- Store in an airtight container.
- Decorate with icing if desired.
- Chill the dough for easier handling.
