Description

Ground Beef Stroganoff is a creamy, hearty, and budget-friendly comfort food made with savory ground beef, mushrooms, and a rich sour cream sauce, perfect for busy weeknights or cozy family dinners.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 Tbsp olive oil
  • 1 lb lean ground beef
  • 1/2 medium onion, diced
  • 1 lb mushrooms, sliced
  • 2 garlic cloves, minced
  • 2 Tbsp all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup beef broth
  • 1 cup heavy whipping cream
  • 1/3 cup sour cream
  • 1 Tbsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 1/2 tsp salt (adjust to taste)
  • 1/2 tsp ground black pepper (adjust to taste)

Instructions

  1. Preheat a deep pan over medium-high heat. Add olive oil and heat it.
  2. Add ground beef and cook, breaking it apart, until browned and crumbly.
  3. Add diced onion and minced garlic. Sauté until onion is translucent and golden, about 5 minutes.
  4. Stir in sliced mushrooms and cook for another 5 minutes until softened and liquid has mostly evaporated.
  5. Sprinkle in the flour and stir well until fully incorporated and no lumps remain.
  6. Add beef broth, heavy whipping cream, Worcestershire sauce, salt, and black pepper. Stir and bring to a simmer.
  7. Lower the heat and simmer for 5 minutes, allowing the sauce to thicken and flavors to meld.
  8. Remove from heat and stir in sour cream until fully blended.
  9. Serve hot over egg noodles, rice, or mashed potatoes. Garnish as desired.

Notes

  • Do not overcook the ground beef to keep it tender.
  • Ensure the flour is fully cooked into the mixture to avoid a gritty sauce.
  • Add a splash of red wine or mustard for a flavor boost.
  • For a lighter version, substitute ground turkey and use low-fat cream.
  • Let the sauce cool slightly before serving for the best texture.
