Traditional Irish brown soda bread.
Ingredients
Scale
- 3 cups whole wheat flour
- 1 cup buttermilk
- 1 teaspoon baking soda
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 2 tablespoons honey
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 425°F (220°C).
- In a bowl, mix the flour, baking soda, and salt.
- Add honey and buttermilk, mix until combined.
- Knead the dough gently on a floured surface.
- Shape into a round loaf and place on a baking sheet.
- Cut a cross on top of the loaf.
- Bake for 30-35 minutes or until golden brown.
- Let it cool before slicing.
Notes
- Store in an airtight container.
- Best served fresh.
- Can be toasted for added flavor.
