Description

Kreatopita is a traditional Greek meat pie made with a flaky crust and a savory filling of minced meat and spices.


Ingredients

  • 500g minced beef
  • 2 onions, chopped
  • 2 garlic cloves, minced
  • 1 cup rice
  • 2 eggs
  • 1/2 cup parsley, chopped
  • 1 tsp cinnamon
  • Salt to taste
  • Pepper to taste
  • 500g filo pastry
  • 100g butter, melted

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 180°C (350°F).
  2. In a pan, sauté the onions and garlic until soft.
  3. Add minced beef and cook until browned.
  4. Stir in rice, parsley, cinnamon, salt, and pepper.
  5. Remove from heat and let cool slightly.
  6. In a bowl, beat the eggs and mix into the meat mixture.
  7. Layer half of the filo pastry in a greased baking dish, brushing each layer with butter.
  8. Spread the meat mixture evenly over the pastry.
  9. Cover with the remaining filo pastry, brushing each layer with butter.
  10. Bake for 45-50 minutes until golden brown.

Notes

  • Serve warm or at room temperature.
  • Can be frozen before baking.
  • Use ground lamb for a different flavor.
