Description

Lahmacun is a Turkish flatbread topped with minced meat and vegetables.


Ingredients

  • 1 cup warm water
  • 2 teaspoons sugar
  • 2 teaspoons active dry yeast
  • 4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 cup olive oil
  • 1 pound ground lamb or beef
  • 1 onion, finely chopped
  • 2 tomatoes, finely chopped
  • 1 bell pepper, finely chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tablespoon tomato paste
  • 1 teaspoon paprika
  • 1 teaspoon cumin
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Fresh parsley for garnish

Instructions

  1. In a bowl, mix warm water, sugar, and yeast. Let it sit for 5 minutes.
  2. In a large bowl, combine flour and salt. Add yeast mixture and olive oil. Knead until smooth.
  3. Cover and let the dough rise for 1 hour.
  4. In a pan, sauté onion and garlic until soft. Add ground meat, cook until browned.
  5. Mix in tomatoes, bell pepper, tomato paste, paprika, cumin, salt, and pepper. Cook for 5 minutes.
  6. Preheat oven to 475°F (245°C).
  7. Divide dough into equal pieces. Roll each piece into a thin circle.
  8. Spread the meat mixture evenly over each circle.
  9. Bake for 10-12 minutes until edges are crispy.
  10. Garnish with parsley and serve hot.

Notes

  • Serve with lemon wedges and fresh vegetables.
  • Can be made in advance and reheated.
