Description

Loaded Cajun Fries are crispy, golden fries tossed in bold Cajun spices, topped with melted cheese, jalapeños, bacon, and green onions—perfect for game days, parties, or cozy nights in.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 pounds russet potatoes
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 tablespoon Cajun seasoning
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1 teaspoon paprika
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/2 teaspoon cayenne pepper (optional)
  • 1 cup buttermilk
  • 1/2 cup shredded cheddar cheese
  • 1/2 cup shredded Monterey Jack cheese
  • 1/4 cup sliced jalapeños
  • 1/4 cup chopped green onions
  • 1/4 cup crumbled bacon
  • Vegetable oil for frying

Instructions

  1. Wash, peel (optional), and cut the potatoes into 1/4-inch thick fries. Soak them in cold water for 30 minutes to 1 hour.
  2. In a bowl, mix flour, Cajun seasoning, garlic powder, onion powder, paprika, salt, black pepper, and cayenne pepper.
  3. Drain and pat the potatoes dry. Dip each fry into buttermilk, then dredge in the seasoned flour mix.
  4. Heat vegetable oil to 350°F (175°C). Fry the coated fries in small batches for 4-5 minutes until golden brown. Drain on paper towels.
  5. Transfer fries to a serving platter. Sprinkle with shredded cheddar and Monterey Jack cheese.
  6. Broil the fries for 2-3 minutes until cheese melts and bubbles.
  7. Top with sliced jalapeños, chopped green onions, and crumbled bacon. Serve hot with optional ranch or dipping sauce.

Notes

  • Soaking potatoes helps remove excess starch for crispier fries.
  • Do not overcrowd the oil while frying.
  • Add brown sugar to seasoning for a sweet-spicy balance.
  • Try variations like avocado, BBQ sauce, or plant-based toppings.
  • Store leftovers in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 2 days or freeze for up to 1 month.
