Description

Mujadara is a traditional Middle Eastern dish made with lentils, rice, and caramelized onions.


Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup lentils
  • 1 cup rice
  • 2 large onions, sliced
  • 4 cups water
  • 3 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 teaspoon cumin
  • Salt to taste
  • Pepper to taste

Instructions

  1. Rinse the lentils and soak them for 30 minutes.
  2. In a pot, heat olive oil over medium heat and add the sliced onions. Cook until caramelized.
  3. Add the lentils to the pot and pour in water. Bring to a boil.
  4. Reduce heat and simmer for 15 minutes.
  5. Add rice, cumin, salt, and pepper. Stir well.
  6. Cover and cook for another 20 minutes until rice is tender.
  7. Let it rest for 10 minutes before serving.

Notes

  • Serve with yogurt or salad.
  • Adjust spices according to your taste.
  • Leftovers can be stored in the fridge for up to 3 days.
