Description

Sausage Pasta is a hearty and comforting dish combining savory sausage and pasta. Perfect for a quick weeknight dinner with a savory, flavorful sauce.


Ingredients

  • 8 oz pasta (penne, rigatoni, or your choice)
  • 1 lb sausage (Italian sausage or any preferred type)
  • 1 medium onion, diced
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 can (14 oz) diced tomatoes
  • 1 cup chicken or vegetable broth
  • 1 tsp Italian seasoning
  • 1/2 tsp red pepper flakes (optional)
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 1 cup spinach or kale (optional)
  • 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese (for topping)
  • 2 tbsp olive oil

Instructions

  1. Cook the pasta according to the package instructions until al dente, then drain and set aside.
  2. Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add the sausage and cook until browned, about 5-7 minutes. Transfer to a plate and set aside.
  3. In the same skillet, sauté the diced onion and garlic in the remaining oil until the onion becomes translucent, about 3-4 minutes.
  4. Return the sausage to the skillet. Add the diced tomatoes, chicken broth, Italian seasoning, and red pepper flakes. Stir to combine and simmer for 5 minutes.
  5. Add the cooked pasta to the skillet, tossing to combine. Use reserved pasta water to adjust sauce consistency. Add spinach or kale and cook until wilted.
  6. Serve the pasta hot, garnished with grated Parmesan cheese.

  • For a lighter option, substitute regular sausage with turkey or chicken sausage.
