Description

Sloppy Joe Casserole is a cozy and hearty dish that blends the sweet and savory flavors of a classic Sloppy Joe sandwich with comforting pasta and melted cheese, baked to perfection. It’s perfect for family dinners, busy weeknights, or gatherings.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1 onion, chopped
  • 1 bell pepper, chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 cup tomato sauce
  • 1/4 cup ketchup
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tablespoon brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon mustard
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 8 ounces elbow macaroni or similar, cooked and drained
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a baking dish with cooking spray or olive oil.
  2. In a large skillet, heat olive oil over medium-high heat. Add ground beef, onion, and bell pepper. Cook for 5–7 minutes until beef is browned and vegetables are soft. Drain excess fat.
  3. Stir in garlic, tomato sauce, ketchup, Worcestershire sauce, brown sugar, and mustard. Season with salt and pepper. Simmer for 10 minutes, stirring occasionally, until thickened.
  4. In the prepared baking dish, combine cooked pasta with the meat mixture and stir until evenly coated.
  5. Sprinkle shredded cheddar cheese evenly over the top.
  6. Bake in the preheated oven for 20–25 minutes, until cheese is melted and bubbly.
  7. Remove from oven, let cool for a few minutes, then serve warm.

Notes

  • Use ground turkey or plant-based meat as a substitute for ground beef.
  • Don’t overcook the pasta as it will continue to cook in the oven.
  • For extra flavor, sauté the onions and peppers until slightly caramelized before adding the beef.
  • Top with fresh herbs, sour cream, or jalapeños for added flair.
  • Can be made ahead and stored in the fridge or freezer before baking.
